done, and done

So! Some significant progress has been made.

Three of the four bridesmaids dresses have been ordered. Apparently it takes 10-12 weeks to order a ridiculously basic dress. Its silly. So we had to rush the two we ordered today, and Sarah will have to rush hers. Kristen was on the ball and ordered hers with enough time. lol. Go us.

A rough guest list has been made. Wewt.

I bought a bodice at Fredericks' of Hollywood tonight. Its t3h sexay. It makes my waist 27", which is a 2" cinch. WOO. I have to try it on with my dress, to make sure it doesn't peek out, and my boobs still look ok in the dress (there aren't any cups, its straight up, so it might look funky. Glad i asked about the return policy). Its sexy either way. It was $60, but you know what? I wanted one. So there. My mom was all "look on ebay!" EW.

We ordered our wedding bands tonight! This is my ring, an "enhancer" shape i can get soldered and re-dipped with my engagement ring. This is Corrigan's wedding band. Its a black titanium ring with white gold inlays. We've looked at tons of rings for him, and we both kept going back to that one. He wants to wear it already. :)

There are totally only four and a half months until i get married. It for some reason has not sunk in. That i will be Mrs. Kayla Mae Luckey shortly. Eek.
When my dress comes it will sink in.

Many a detail have been worked out behind your backs.

Dress
I know i said we were going to make my dress. Upon actually going out and trying on dresses and looking at price tags, we discovered that the kind of simple dress i want is ridiculously affordable given all the work and material involved.
This is the dress:

What we're going to do is remake the sash in plaid. So it will be a nice big swath of color, but not overpowering like a full train of plaid would have been. Its a beautiful, simple dress that compliments my shape beautifully.
We ordered it at the end of July, it should be here in a week or two.

Location
We're going to hold it at a family friend's house in Ravensway. She's got a big back yard and has held weddings there before. Its pretty and intimate and free and comfortable and we won't have to worry about time. That's my biggest thing for this whole event. I don't want to worry. I want to have fun.

Boyos
Decided that kilts and all the appropriate accessories would be too expensive for the whole party. Boys will be in suits with tartan cumberbunds and ties, and Ann wants to make a kilt for Corrigan still.

Bridesmaids
Totally have not done enough work for them. Kendall and I decided to do a two piece thing with a plain skirt we will do at tea-length, with a straight-across bodice that has a removable 3/4" wide halter strap. I need to email my girls and hope they still want to be my bridesmaids. Oops. Need to get Marianne's tickets.

Etc.

No children in the wedding party. Too many brats to worry about coordinating. They're fully invited, but if anybody is a ring bearer, its my dog.

No update on food, flowers, officiant or music. Guess i should work on that.

Portland and/or Seattle for the honeymoon. We went to NYC last week for a day and decided that its too fast paced and stressful to make a good honeymoon. We want somewhere super laid back.

Homemade cake. My family apparently has a much passed down cake recipe. White cake covered with flowers and/or flower petals works for me. Possibly with the bottom tier circled in tartan fabric.

Did i say an official date? March 10, 2007.

Still want mead for at least the toast. I need to order a bottle of a few different varieties to see if i want to use them instead of the ever-available and sweet Chaucers.

I totally need to contact florists. Crap.

Bridal magazines.
Why do their honeymoon sections only list expensive resort islands? Maybe some of us poor sons of bitches can only afford to stay in the US. Maybe even only stay in our home state.
I'm really tired of all the magazines and shows and websites that are all like "OMG YOU MUST HAVE A PICTURE PERFECT TV-QUALITY WEDDING!!!!!". I just want to have fun and marry Corrigan and then relax for a week or so. Relaxing in Tahiti holds little draw over relaxing in like, San Antonio. I don't care.

EAT THAT, Brides, Houston Weddings, The Knot, Martha Stewart Weddings (x2), and whatever other books i have!

that is all.

Wanted to share some venues I want to visit/price. Also, this gives me a way to send an easy link to people showing which ones i'm considering all on one page. Ha ha! *clever!*
To anybody who lives/has lived in houston, if you've been to any of these places and like/dislike them, do let me know. Yey.

Ella's Garden - in tomball, behind their high school. My manager at work got married here, says he really liked it. Specialize in garden/outside ceremonies. 30ish min away.

Chateau Polonez - beautiful french chateau like 10 minutes from us. Pretty outside facilities. Looks expensive.

Heather's Glen - another specially outside facility. This one is about an hour away.

Cole's Country - outdoor/indoor facility 5 minutes from my house. This one looks really promising.

Paraiso Maravilla - reeeeally fancy chateau type place a bit more in-town than the others, about 30 min away. Pretty expensive i think, but so pretty!!! Patio type venue for ceremony, no true outside outside.

Fontenot Grand Mansion - biiiiig mansion in Spring, Texas, about 45 min-1hr away. Very pretty.

Northwest Forest - another places like 5 minutes from me. I'm less fond of this place, they do a LOT of school and corporate functions... sort of cheesy texas facade, alamo/old west kind of crap, but they may have prettier buildings i haven't seen. its a huge property. They may be affordable?

^_^ So that's my Possibles list so far. We've made no motion to actually make appointments to VISIT any of them, so we need to get doing that. Sigh. I'd rather try on dresses!
If anybody in houston knows of anywhere else they like, let me know. this is just a list i've narrowed down from theknot.com, and corrigan's mom.

Corrigan's sister asked me if i have picked out bridesmaid dresses. I said, you think i'm just going to arbitrarily decide on a dress and make all of them buy it??? Please. I'm not that mean. Besides, Kendall would kill me. She also asked me if I'd let her go cake tasting with us. I don't care. I don't even like cake that much.
I'd rather have pie!
I'm actually quite surprised about how much of this stuff i'm kind of "ehhh... i don't care, really, as long as its pretty" about!! Cake... Flowers, really, as long as it includes a few choice types of flowers. Like, i don't care to be intimately involved in the floral design as i want to be involved with the clothing design, or the overall menu.
And photographers, i trust my daddy. I am seriously going to have like 3 photographers at our wedding. He's going to round up all of his friends and go, okay guys, my daughter is getting married. You know what to do. Yay daddy photographer. Oh, the money saving.

I watched a wedding show at my mom's house today. The brides were snobby spoiled bitches. If i ever become a bitch, i fully expect my entourage of friends to hit me upside the head and i'm going to go OMG FUCK I'M SORRY I LOVE YOU DON'T HATE ME.
Hear that kendall? Your duties include my bachelorette party, and keeping me from being a bitch. HOORAY!!

Been a while since i posted. Also haven't been working very hard on anything wedding-ey.
Things we really need to get working on:

visiting possible venues, narrowing down that list

decide on a venue

get a comprehensive family list out of Corrigan's mom

talk about food and drink

try on dresses (this is the one i can't wait to do)

hammer out a final design for my dress

heavily research kilt supplies and costs

maybe try to find bagpipers in houston?

research flowers; i want thistles. hard to find in houston?

I also sketched out a rough bridesmaid idea. I think i would like off white dresses with a large sash of tartan. I like what most mainstream formal places do, where the bridesmaids can mix and match tops and bottoms. This would help us because of the variety of body shapes my girls have. I figure, whatever they like, we can add the tartan sash to, and for that matter, make it detachable.
Here's the sketch.

Umm, that is all for right now.

So, we went to my parents last night, and mom asked about the wedding. I said the thing stopping the planning right now is budget, we don't have one. My parents said they'll help however they can, because i'm their only daughter so they only have to do this whole "pay for the wedding" thing once. So, that's good.

Then we talked about food. We are thinking a nice cocktail something or other. My dad said "so people can mingle". He's been to a ton of weddings, and he says if the reception has a big sit down dinner, by the time everybody has eaten they're ready to go. I think we'll go somewhere in between, having tables for everyone, but maybe a buffet of finger type foods and drinks. My mother wants sandwiches. My dad and i are more on the same page, with stuffed mushrooms, shrimp cocktails, etc hors d'oeurves and such. My dad likes the idea of more chic type foods, but i don't think much of our extended family would eat it if they couldn't tell what it is, so i think we will keep it simple. I would like some pasta, maybe a light penne. I want an open bar, but we'd keep it stocked with mediocre to good beer, and some wines, no liquor (or only a limited selection). Mom says "no, then people will get drunk!! make them pay!" but i think its infinitely rude to make guests pay for anything AT the wedding reception. It was after this exchange that my dad and I said almost unanimously, "WE will take care of the food" at my mom. I still want mead instead of champagne for at least the toast. My parents think me weird, but that's the one thing i won't budge on. ROAR.

I'm so glad my dad is warming up to all this wedding crap. He's starting to give input to conversation, etc. So i think it will turn out OK. I want him to go with us to look at venues.

I need to get a list of family members from Corrigan's mom. I got one from my mom. After i get said lists, we can make an official "approximate guest count".
With the food idea, now, i'm thinking less a banquet hall and more a restaurant or hotel. There are some hotels in the area with pretty gardens and whatnot, so we could still do the ceremony outside. Our friends Robin and Lynsey had their wedding at the Hotel Galvez (in galveston), their ceremony was in a courtyard, and their reception was in a nice hall in the hotel, it was very pretty.

Any suggestions for food? Should we cater? should we cook? Should we just rent a banquet hall and one of those packages and have them do the whole thing for us?
Hiss!

Would it be too weird if we incorporated a handfasting/tying of hands ritual into our marriage ceremony? Just the tying our hands together with a strip of tartan with a few vows in addition to the ring-giving vows?
I think as long as we describe it as a traditional scottish ceremony+, it won't be looked down upon.
Opinions?

Got pretty little champagne flutes yesterday, but i'm kind of skeptical about the reliability of the hotel accomodation thing. you have to reserve a room and use the room within 30 days of eachother. So basically, I would have to call and reserve a room like, in february, and HOPE that there are rooms available for their reserved bloc, and if not, tough shit.
So we may just use that for a fun just-because-we-deserve-it trip to san antonio.

I'm an absolute geek, and i made a big binder-of-wedding-crap. AND. I made a magazine cut out collage for the front. I ROCK THE HIGH SCHOOL COLLAGE SKILLZ YO.
I may scan it in. I feel like a pathetic enough soul for even making said collage, but i don't know if i could bring myself to scan it.
So i'm doing all the cut crap out of magazines and print crap online shit and putting it in this notebook. Cause i can.

I think i may have to alter my dress design a bit, after seeing a nice Alfred Angelo design that had the same idea of a split back with a different fabric (white on white in this dress's case), but instead of being a one-piece gown, it was a bodice with a skirt. I think this may be uber easier than a one-piece gown, because we could basically buy a bodice and alter it, then make the skirt from scratch. The bodice is the part i was worried about anyway, as it seems difficult to make a really nice boutique-quality bust shape from sratch.
Here is the back of the dress from Alfred Angelo.
I need to go to this store and try on some of their stuff, i seem to have found MANY things by this designer that i really like, unlike one or two pieces from most other designers.

Justin (Corrigan's friend and one of his groomsmen) said he'd help me design stationery. I just need to give him a design idea on paper, and he will do it really nice on the computer for me. I think i'm going to use thistles and tartan as the main theme for the whole wedding if i can get hold of thistles. I may need to consult area florists before i make a set-in-stone decision like that. Poop.

Also, here is the lore of the "honeymoon", which i think we may read at the start of the reception. I plan to have much mead a-flowin, and its a fun story that can at least give us an excuse for having the godly drink there.

Biznach!
So i went to a bridal extravaganza a few months back with my dad.
And i entered my name in for a lot of crap to win.
And i won some crap!
I got a phone call friday (the day i got engaged) from a company, and they said i won two lead crystal (is that safe??) toasting glasses, and three days, two nights stay at any of like 82+ locations/resorts.
All we have to do is go down to a hotel by Reliant Park and listen to them blab about all the crap they have to sell ('you don't have to purchase anything!').

Hooray free crap!
So what we might do is take our three days two nights wherever, then come back to houston, then take off to austin or san antonio for a few more days. Hooray cheap!

We're narrowing the weddings dates down, it looks like its either Saturday, March 10, Sunday, March 11, or Sunday, March 18. I'm leaning toward March 10, because it will probably be easier on out of town guests, especially if mine are flying in from New Jersey (hope they come lol).

And i TOTALLY made the neatest icon EVAR.
I figure as long as i stay funny about all this wedding crap, people won't want to strangle me.
Hooray!

Hi guys, thanks for adding if you did. This journal is for me to gush and be a girl and not annoy people who don't care about girly, shitty wedding details.

We will be getting married sometime between winter and spring of 2006-7.
Here is a photo of my ring, with which Corrigan proposed to me Thursday, April 20, at Johnny Carino's over dinner and a pitcher of beer.

Here is the tentative design for my wedding dress, which Corrigan's mom, grandma and I will be making.

Our wedding is going to be scottish themed, as we are both of scottish descent. I hope to have lots of mead a-flowin', and, if possible, lots of bagpipes a-honking.

I named this journal Luckey Bride because, if you don't know me in person, I am to be the future Mrs. Corrigan Luckey.
So i am, indeed, the Luckeyest Bride EV4R.
